Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult

1) Is there any actual hidden meaning behind the very name of the band?

DNS:

Obviously there is a deeper meaning, as the translation itself does not make much sense. It is a union of three words. The third of ten sefirot being associated to Saturn reflects the mandatory founding stone of each and every form. Without this base there is no existence. As the “ancient mother” can not birth this new found wisdom, it is to be seen as a union of great powers.

Each word symbolizes a segment of the intended meaning. Mold together the receiving and giving principals are as one. The last ingredient the untained thought emanates enough energy to bound all under one banner: “Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult”. May it be up to those interested to ponder about the intended meaning!

2)Does the general image you have adopted play an important role and contribute much in spreading your music widely?...Any symbolism behind that practice?

DNS:

Slaughtercult performs one hundred percent honest „music“. If that is something you would like to call “image” fine, then so be it. We do not care much if the “music” is spread widely. It is a nice side effect to know that a certain amount of people is interested in what you are creating, but this does in absolutely no way effect our own individual world views. It is not the extreme music which has adopted the utmost “I”. It is the self crowned I which has stumbled across this type of music to channel individual thought patterns into something rather creative instead of letting these “powers” indifferently roam. We put our utmost deep thoughts into both soundscapes as well as lyrical content. Due to this sharing of insights we simply “demand” of each listener to find out himself what lies behind “that practice”. A fool chooses the easy path to walk,… the wise picks the narrow trail to see what lies seemingly unapproachable within himself.

3)The music you make seems to constitute, among other things, an invocation to supernal and superior immaterial beings from the world beyond...

Do you belive tht when performing live you sent out to your fans a sort of powerful message, the meaning of which is given to you by these supernatural beings?

DNS:

We have grown to learn to call our performances both blood stained live battles as well as „rituals“. We put much effort and above all a huge amount of power into each and every concert. Usually a single performance drains us of strength for another one or two days. We are somewhere in between the “heavens” and the “hells”. Each live performance unlocks the gateway to this “in between”. Magic bows down to individuality. We can merely offer the key to unlock a certain “something” – once again it is the choice of the attendant to either use it or to remain in a constant state of mental lethargy. We do believe in the minimum of a dualistic world. You are referring to merely to “a” world beyond. Let it be known that there is a beyond, to the beyond, …and a beyond to that beyond…

4)Could you give our readers your band's notions regarding the''unseen''world of the occult theories?

DNS:

The human mind in general is not able to cope with the Occult. It is weak and in its understanding very limited. Afterall aren’t we the declining 5th race? Anyhow, imagine a black sheet of paper. Place a small white spot in the center to depict the boundaries of the human mind. As this “mind” evolves it ascends to greater spiritual heights. Thus this white stain will grow in size and radius. Eventually it will reach the boundaries of the imagined paper. Now rethink this theory in not just a two dimensional extension. It expands not just to the left and right, or up and down on the paper. Having understood this simple example, it is understandable that it is very likely that our sheet of paper is not more than a tiny piece of the greater “above” – not more then a sphere wrapped within another sphere. Knowledge is at our hands, yet to fully understand is an infinite journey! It takes several life spans to reach the peek, just to see another peek in the distant, flaming horizons.

5)Supposing you could travel back in time, what era or civilization do you believe you would love to perform live in? What city and what age would host your music best?

(More answers than one are welcome!)

DNS:

Ages gone by, most of them crumbled to dust, yet each passed century had its’ own fascinating touch. All eras had own “music” or art in general. Art is somewhat of a mirror for past world views. It reflects what nowadays dead man once believed. It would be great to witness the entire course of mankind. Witnessing evolutions dawn all the way ‘til its’ unspectacular dusk. Our music would most definitely not fit in, thus it would simply be enough to get an impression of each time span. Interesting events during this journey would definitely be the dethronement of dinosaurs as the dominating “race”, the Sumerian and Aztecs era, the myth of Christ as well as the Roman Empire, the grim medieval ages, the Inquisition, and so on and so on. Furthermore Greek and Agyptian mythology would be worth a stay, or for this matter a journey back in time.

6)Is the overall tenor of the''Ideals'' that move you, into making music, multilateral and multiform or simply a tenor revolving around a specific aim?

DNS:

To answer such question we need to generalize “music” to just any type of artistic expression. All fine arts, may that be performing or pictorial arts, abstract, applied or degenerated art, as long as they are procreated by a mind and heart filled with utmost conviction, discerped from the “womb of thoughts” with a single drop of “blood”. Ingenuity lies not within a monotony of sorrow, but rather within each and every spoke of the great wheel know as life itself. A mind driven by the constant hail of the sum of all external forces, which pelts down upon its perception as well as its ability to anticipate perception, will not be capable of releasing this flood of emotions in just one channel. A multitude of relieving outbursts will be the outcome. So to speak the aftermath of a mind that dares to cope with the unavoidable misery of the incomprehensible superior forces. Such a mind does not revolve around a fixed point or single aim. Many factors are responsible for making audible “channels” the primary choice for us.

7)The fifth track in''Hora Nocturna'' sports a rite of occult orientation.May your fans be let in on the secret texture of this rite?

DNS:

There is no secret texture. The scrolls of lyrical enlightenment are embedded within the lyrics. If the chosen language is a tongue which you do not speak or understand, then let your self be aroused by the sound of the phrases as well as the robe in which they are dressed. Speaking in magical terms it is not always the actual meaning of a word or sentence which has an impact on the surroundings. At times it is the mere vibrancy of a sound that is enough to open mental portals. Do not try to grasp a primordial intention, seek your own definition and interpretation!

8)''Hora Nocturna''is your latest album. Will your next step be along the lines laid down as up to now or will we witness your band following a somehow innovative and yet authentic sound?

DNS:

There are numerous bands which have changed their allegiance and style just to be innovative. In such matters innovation just means adjusting the overall appearance of the horde in order to attract more potential paying customers. We have made a slight progress with each new chapter. We are taking small steps at a time. If there is ever any reason for us to leave the chosen path – we are calling this path pure fucking black metal – then we will also change our hordes’ name. Slaughtercult is no guiding shepherd, it is meant for the few, and those few are assured to get nothing but D. N. Slaughtercult, nothing but pure fucking black metal. No compromise, no trend orientation, no pathetic attempt to be fucking innovative. Coming to think of it,… staying loyal to nearly forgotten times of early Scandinavian black metal does not that make you innovative nowadays?

9)On the last page of''Hora Nocturna'' 's enclosed booklet, some holy seals are portrayed.Such seals as:''Herme's Forth Talisman''and ''Glasya-Labolas'',among oters.

Do you think that symbols and seals speak the meaning of spiritualism louder than the words of invocations usuall do?

DNS:

Doesn’t it all depend on the „education“ you have received. Doesn’t it all depend on what you have learned? Doesn’t it all depend on what you have found out to be the right path for you? There is a right time and place for all types of “magic” – at this point we can disregard the aspect of so called higher and lower/lesser magical practices. Symbols or in this case seals are more adequate to be used as you have them constantly in front of the eye. Take out the CD and you see them. You were able to identify two of them,… any idea about the last three? Both seals and vociferations such as a mantra for example need to be associated with a strong personal interpretation in order to be truly effective. They are charged with ones own penciled vigour. One person might find easier access to symbols, the next may be to words, and the next to who knows what… fact is, and we shall remember this as the summary of this entire interview, magic is an individual path!!!
